Step 1

1. Total Recipe Weights for HP Soap (optional): 544 grams Palm Oil 1,270 grams Coconut Oil 76 689 grams Distilled Water 294 grams Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) 525 grams Baking Soda 288 grams Borax 25 grams Fragrance Oil

Step 2

2. This recipe can require the creation of hot process soap, giving you control over the ingredients used. If you are not comfortable with the process you can purchase a laundry bar from the grocery store and skip to step 9.

Step 3

3. If you are preparing your soap from scratch, prep your work area and put on your safety gear. If you have not made soap from scratch, become familiar with this process and safety before making this portion of the recipe.

Step 4

4. Prepare the Lye Solution: Weigh out 689 grams distilled water. Add 294 grams lye. Never add the water to the Lye. Always add the lye to the water.

Step 5

5. Turn your crock pot on low. In your crock pot, melt 1,270 grams coconut oil 76 and 544 grams of palm oil.

Step 6

6. Add a small amount of the lye water to the crock pot. Stir. Continue adding the lye water in small amounts and stirring until you have added all of the lye water.

Step 7

7. Use a stick blender to blend the mixture to trace or a pudding-like consistency.

Step 8

8. Next, cover the crock pot and leave it on a low setting for about two hours. You will want to stir the mixture frequently and never leave it unattended.

Step 9

9. You know your soap is ready to go into the molds when it has a mashed potato consistency. At this time place your soap into the molds.

Step 10

10. Once the soap has set up, remove it from the molds and cut it into bars. This is a four-pound batch. You will have more soap than you will need for this recipe. However, we suggest saving the remaining soap for later batches. This way it is readily available.

Step 11

11. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Place 525 grams of baking soda in a clear cake pan. Bake the baking soda in the oven for approximately 30 minutes to an hour. Allow to cool. Cooking the baking soda will change the baking soda's chemical composition to washing soda.

Step 12

12. For this step, put your gloves on. In a mixing bowl, weigh 525 grams of the baked baking soda and 288 grams borax. Mixing and break up any clumps.

Step 13

13. Either grate the soap or using a food processor, cut up 312 grams of soap. To your food processor, add a few tablespoons of the baking soda and borax mixture. This will help lessen the chances of your soap sticking to the blades. Blend until it reaches a powder-like consistency.

Step 14

14. In a mixing bowl, add the remaining baking soda and borax mixture, the ground soap, and 25 grams of the fragrance oil of your choice. Mix until fully blended.

Step 15

15. Place the powder into a container or sealed bag.

Step 16

16. Your Powdered Laundry Detergent is now ready to use! Simply use about one to two tablespoons per load of laundry.
