Trim around each mold half before use, then secure the two halves together with tape—blue painter’s tape or duct tape both work well. Stand the mold upright, pour in the melted soap through the pour spout, and insert the popsicle stick using a soap clip. Let the soap set completely before gently removing the tape and separating the mold halves. The finished soap will release as a clean, fully formed 3D shape. Keep pouring temperatures below 145°F (63°C) to prevent warping or damaging the mold. Allow the mold to cool fully before storing or reusing. For cold process soap, do not oil the mold—traced soap will cling to oil and stick. Wash new molds in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry with a soft towel before buffing lightly. To help the soap firm and release easily, dissolve 2 tsp of borax per 6 oz of water before adding lye. If the top of your soap hardens but the bottom stays soft, it likely didn’t reach full trace. If the soap sticks, place the mold in the freezer for 30 minutes, then let it sit at room temperature for about 2 minutes. Turn it upside down on a towel, gently pull the sides of the mold to release air, and press around the edges to ease the soap out.
